Event has already happened.
Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and Seattle Neighborhood Greewyay are offering a family-friendly, seven-mile (round trip) bike tour for all ages and abilities that will take you from Jimi Hendrix Park/Northwest African-American Museum to Jefferson Park. Artworks highlight the role of public art in strengthening and upholding community.
We will stop to view these public artworks—including the four sites below in the City’s collection—and more, including at the Centilia Cultural Center at El Centro:
- Urban Peace Circle, by Gerard Tsutakawa – Sam Smith Park
- Drawing the Land; Painting and Sculpting the Land, by Elizabeth Conner – Jefferson Park
- The Dream Ship “Beacon Hill Discovery”, by Miles Addison Pepper – Beacon Hill Library
- Ravens Bills Downspouts, by Miles Addison Pepper – Beacon Hill Library
- Tidal Wave Story, by Ellen Ziegler – Fire Station 13
Artists Elizabeth Conner (Drawing the Land; Painting and Sculpting the Land) and Gerard Tsutakawa (Urban Peace Circle), and others will join us to talk about their artworks. Participants will also learn about other bike routes in the region that feature prominent public artworks.
"Easy Pace" is under 10 mph on flat surface without any headwind. Average walking speed is around 3 mph, so we will be about 3 times faster!. If you aren't sure about your pace, please join us anyway. We will help you find your way back if you need to return to the start early. Carrying ORCA card is another good option.
You should dress appropriately for the weather, but you do not need spandex or other specialized bike gear. All you need is a working bike and a helmet. If you haven't ridden your bike for quite some time, please do a ABC Check (link below) or take it to your local bike shop a few days prior to the ride date.
Please arrive 20 minutes before the published start time to ready your bike, check in and participate in the safety and ride briefing. We will go over hand signals and what we say during the ride to keep outselves safe.
Register -Follow the link under "Ticket URL" to register and sign and e-waiver. . If you do not have an account with Cascade, it is free to create an account. If you cannot make the ride, you do not need to unregister. If you do not register, you will need to sign a paper waiver before the ride.
Weather - Rain will not cancel the ride, but we may choose a shorter route if weather is especially unpleasant. The ride leader will be at the start regardless of the weather to negotiate with those who show up.
