FRUMPS -- Ridges, Bridges and Lunch on Mercer Island
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
The Puget Sound Country is marked by its north-south valleys and the ridges that separate them. In this ride, we surmount or skirt three of the ridges (West Seattle, North Delridge and Beacon Hill) and ride along the shoulders of a fourth (Mercer Island). The route takes us on bridges across the Duwamish Waterway and Lake Washington. On arriving at Mercer Island, there will be a rest stop in Aubrey Davis Park (on the lid over I-90). From there, we will circle the island. After circling the island, we will stop for lunch at New Seasons Market in Mercer Island’s commercial district. After lunch we will follow bike paths back to Sodo and, after crossing Sodo, return to the start by riding along the beach at Alki.
The ride begins at Mee-Kwa-Mooks Park (portable toilet available at the park, no water), 4503 Beach Drive SW. There is ample on-street parking on Beach Drive near the park. The ride leader will be in the park on the water side of Beach Drive. Plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early so we can do the safety briefing and start as scheduled. Bring a light lunch or money for lunch on Mercer Island.
The pace is “steady,” which means riders should be comfortable with riding 12-14 mph on a flat road without a headwind.
Steady rain cancels. If a cancellation is necessary, ride leader will post a notice in the comments section two hours prior to the start.
