Ellensburg 70 with 3600+ climbing

Join us for a memorable ride from Ellensburg in search of long miles and good sustained climbs. Below there are two routes posted. We will choose the best one with regards to the current wind and forecast on Saturday. If it is calm we will ride east through farmland  and out to the PSE Wildhorse Wind Farm. We will be greeted by a nice false flat followed by a steep climb of a couple of miles. Afer a short break we will meander to the south east corner of our valley for more farms and rolling hills before returning to Ellensburg.

Should there be the normal 10-15 mph winds we will ride Northwest over Bettas (pass) past Lauderdale junction then past Liberty and to the top of Old Blewett Pass. This route is mostly along Highway 97. It features a must do climb of Old Blewett. We will return to Ellensburg with a stop off at the Liberty Cafe for fresh pie along the way.

The pace for this ride will be moderate in effort. Both routes have miles of 2% false flats. We will stay together on the flats, self pace the hills with a regroup at the top of each. If we choose the Old Blewett route the return after Bettas will be as fast as is safe and comfortable for the group.

Each ride has very limited services. Please bring plenty of water, three bottles might not be a bad idea. Be prepared to fix flats. We will be able to fill bottles at either the Wind Farm or Liberty Cafe.

There is free parking along Water Street in Ellensburg. Public restrooms located two blocks south of the ride start at Main and Third. If you make a purchase there are several groceries and coffee shops in town near the ride start that offer restrooms for patrons.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to hear route details or updates and our SMART safety breifing.

Weather cancellation policy is steady rain cancels. Strong gusty winds will also cancel (20-30 with higher gusts). Should we need to cancel there will be a notice posted two hours prior to ride time in the comments below and the ride leaders will not be at the start.
