Celebrate the last night of the festival of lights by visiting the three outdoor menorahs displayed by Chabad of Pierce County.
We'll meet at the University Place Whole Foods Market, adjacent to the University Place menorah in front of the library, ride through North Tacoma to the Downtown Tacoma menorah, then make our way to the Scott Pierson Trail and over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to admire the Uptown Gig Harbor menorah. It is customary to commemorate the Hanukah miracle of a small drop of oil lasting eight days and nights by lighting menorahs for eight crazy nights, adding one candle each night. Another tradition is eating oily food - potato pancakes fried in oil or doughnuts. Whatever your tribe, it would be a mitzvah (good deed) for you to join me for this ride and for a post ride doughnut at the University Place Top Pot.
Meeting time is 2 pm for introductions, safety briefing, waiver sign off and all that good pre-departure stuff. To save time at the start, please register and sign the electronic waiver at least two hours before the ride start time. You do not need to be a member of Cascade to register here, you merely have to create a free account if you do not already have one. If your plans change and you can not make the ride, there is no need to "unregister".
If roads are wet or rain is predicted, please have fenders on your bike or ride in the back.
Steady pace means 12-14 miles per hour on hypothetical flat roads with no wind. This route has some hills - notably a long but not very steep climb from downtown Tacoma to Stadium High School and the bridge - we will take them at our own paces and regroup after. The route, linked below, can be downloaded and cue sheets can also be printed.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior in the Comments section below and the ride leader will not be at the start. Would hate to cancel, but it is December, so please check here before leaving for the ride.
Bring what you will need in case of a flat tire or other minor mechanical issues. Other suggested items to bring: a charged cell phone, ID, some cash and a credit card, water, snacks. Lights are an especially good idea this time of year and are strongly recommended as we will be finishing this ride at dusk.
Newcomers welcome, please read the "Newcomer Information" linked above.
