For Adult Beginning Cyclists: Riding on the Road 101
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
We will meet at the Foothills United Methodist Church on the corner of 234th and Entwhistle at 10:00 am for a safety/ride briefing. We will depart directly after the safety briefing. Please arrive on time for the safety briefing with a helmet, rear blinking light and highly visible clothing. Although not mandatory, I highly encourage a mirror that snaps on to your glasses. They are about $15 at most local bike shops. I will show you how to properly use it. Also, ensure you have a mechanically sound bike, tires inflated and bike fenders if the road is wet or predicted to rain.
We will discuss safety issues of riding on the road. We will then take a ride into Buckley via mostly rural roads. Depending on how everyone is doing, we may go into Enumclaw as well. There is not map. We will stay together throughout the ride. This ride is designed to give riders experience on how to properly ride on the road and is designed for beginning cyclist. The effort level will be 14-16 mph on flats and we stop and discuss issues and answer questions several times throughout the ride. Please be aware that the miliage and elevation listed above is an approximation and we will adapt as needed depneding on how the group is doing.
If it is steady showers, I will cancel two hours prior to the ride start. Please see the comments section before leaving for the ride.
