Interested in learning about Cascade's High Performance Cycling (HPC) Team?
HPC is intended for cyclists who like to ride fast, hard, far, and climb hills in a non-racing environment. The team is dedicated to supporting strong cyclists who want to improve their skills and fitness while practicing safe group cycling techniques. Although we are not a racing team, some teammates are also members of WSBA racing teams, participate in ultra and randonneuring events, or compete in multisport events. Cascade's High Performance Cycling Team is perfect fit for:
- Riders who are developing fitness and skills and want to ride with folks who are faster and more experienced
- Strong riders who are looking for compatible cycling buddies who regularly do long, scenic, challenging rides
- Racers who want to diversify and ride with folks who regularly do long, scenic, challenging rides
General information on Free Group Rides can be found here. Please arrive 15 minutes early for a safety briefing.
A mandatory safety briefing will be conducted at 0745. We will depart promptly at 8:00 AM from Center Cycle. No cue sheet will be provided. We'll ride north through Renton and then continue on Lake Washington Blvd and stop at Coulon Park to pick up additional riders at 0825. We will continue north on Lake Washington Blvd then to the I-90 trail west to Enatai Beach Park (under the east end of the I-90 east channel bridge) where we will meet up with additional riders at 0905. We’ll do a "stay-together" loop through the east side of Lake Washington. We will then cross over the I-90 Bridge where riders will have the opportunity to ride an optional hot lap around Mercer Island. The optional hot lap will be at a brisk to a super strenuous pace. We will regroup again at the end of the hot lap. With the exception of the aforementioned optional hot lap, we will maintain a pace of not more than 18 mph on the flats and will regroup after the hills. If you start at Coulon Park you will be responsible for getting back there from Center Cycle at the end of the ride. Rain cancels. Make sure you bring bike fenders, adequate hydration, nutrition and funds in case we stop for coffee.
From the start to Renton we roll at less than 18 mph on the flats. Budget 5 hours for the entire ride.
