Green Lake to Alki - Robert's Retro Ride
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
What's the oldest bike in your stable? Do you ever have a desire to go back to your biking days of yore, hop on some honest steel, and party like it's 1979? Here's a chance to relive those days of downtube shifters, center pull brakes, and gumwall tires. Green Lake to Alki was a staple ride back in the day, an every other Sunday fixture during the riding season. We'll ride a slightly modified version of the classic route, heading out of Lower Woodland Park, and using the South Ship Canal Trail. Our coffee stop will be Tully's on Alki. Pace will be Moderate, and you get style points for riding a classic bike. I'm planning to bring my 70's vintage steel 10-speed, the bike I bought with the proceeds from my first Junior High era paper route. If all you've got is something shiny and new, though, feel free to come along. Steady rain will cancel, and if I make that cancellation more than 2 hours prior to ride start, I will not be at the starting line.
Please be ready to ride by 9:45 AM so we can be on the road at the posted start time. Bring a helmet, supplies and tools to handle flats, and have a phone and a plan for rescue if your bike fails. Please RSVP by clicking on the red "Register Now" button under the ride title above, then checking the box for "Waiver Signature" and filling in the contact information. See you there!
