Midweek Carnation Gravel Grind
Anyone interested in riding completely traffic free is welcome to come gravel grinding this Wednesday. The route is not set in stone and may vary +/- 10 miles and 1000', depending on conditions and group preferences . Expect 75% gravel, some sections with loose surface, and at least two catagorized climbs.
What to expect: We will enjoy a fun challenging workout on highly varied terrain. There will be hills, there will be bridges, vistas and wildlife. There will be bumps and rocks and other obstacles to contend with. We will head out the Snoqualmie Valley Trail to E Griffin Creek, then cross the Tolt River bridge to Swan Mill, Stossel Creek Rd and return to Carnation via Lake Joy and the Tolt Highlands. You can ride many types of bikes on gravel (a dedicated gravel/adventure bike, cyclocross, road, or hardtail mountain bike will do fine although each may have some limitations) as long as you can fit 32mm tires or larger. The ride pace is catagorized as "brisk", however, riding on a gravel road is not like on pavement because nothing is really flat. I usually rate my gravel rides one pace below my road rides. BRING AT LEAST TWO TUBES AND AMPLE WATER. There are no services along the way. GPS navagation is strongly recommended. If you have questions about riding in the back country, what to bring, or if your equipment is up to the challenge please feel free to ask.
This ride requires a pass! Passes are available from Campbell Global for the day ($8) or annually ($50). You can purchase and print day passes online.
