Free Group Ride
She Bikes Tuesday Social Ride: Victory Ride!
Event has already happened.
Get excited! Bike Works and Cascade are teaming up to offer a series of easy-paced, beginner-friendly women-focused rides around Columbia City trails and low-traffic roads. Together we will start with the basics, go nice and slow (10 mph or under), leave no riders behind, and strengthen our biking skills and legs!
All women, trans* and femme-identified riders are welcome, as well as partners, friends, family members and children (kids must be either bike-attached or solo with advance permission of ride leaders).
Bonus! There may be opportunities to learn or practice bike maintenance repair and skills before or after the rides.
Expectations and what to expect: Please arrive right at 6:00 p.m. We are meeting at the Bike Works warehouse location on Hudson St, at the lower level behind the building. We will start every ride with introductions, a safety briefing, a quick bike check and helmet check, all of which will take around 15 minutes. There will be at least two Ride Leaders who know the route - one will lead at the front, the other will stay at the back and "sweep" making sure no one gets left behind, and help with mechanical issues. We will stay together for most of the ride, and wait at the top of hills to regroup. Once we reach our destination or halfway point, we will take a snack/ water / photo-op break, and then head back to Bike Works. All of our rides are under 10 miles, and shouldn't take more than an hour and a half to complete.
If you have any questions, feel free to use the comments section below, or contact the Ride Leader directly using the contact info above.
Waiver: Every participant on a Cascade Free Group Ride must sign the safety and liability waiver. You may sign it at the ride start, or online if you have a Cascade account. You can create a Cascade account without being a Cascade member. To create a account, click "Sign In" in the top right corner of Cascade's homepage, then click the button to the left that say "Create new account" and enter your information. Once you are signed in, you will see a button that says "Register" under the ride title on all ride postings on Cascade's calendar. Click this button and check the Waiver Signature box and click Save Registration. To learn more about Cascade's Free Group Rides and policies, click here.
What to bring: You must have a helmet and a working bike. A warm jacket, a water bottle and a snack are highly recommended. It's a good idea to bring along a spare tube for your bike tire in case you get a flat - if you don't know the right size and type of tube for your bike, ride leaders or Bike Works staff can help you find the right tube. We don't expect to be biking after dark, but if you have bike lights it is a good idea to bring them along, white for the front and red for the back.
Weather Cancellation: If the weather is steady rain or worse (high winds, snow, ice, hail, etc) the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride at least two hours before the ride start time, by posting a cancellation notice in the Comments section below, and on the Meetup event. If the weather is iffy, Ride Leaders will be at the ride start and decide then.
Route this week: This will be our final ride this spring, our "victory ride"! Look out for the ride route and description to be posted in the comments below at least a week before the ride date!
