Event has already happened.
Answer the call to ride and join the Seattle Cycle Sirens (SCS) for our FREE Clinic-and-a-ride event! This is part of the SCS's effort to host women-friendly training rides this summer to help riders prepare for group ride events like Cycle the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere), Bike-n-Brews El Norte, Kitsap Color Classic and more.
The clinic/talk will start at 9:00 a.m. at the parking lot of Tolt MacDonald Park in Carnation. We will spend about 45 minutes covering topics like pre-ride bike checks, road riding basics, bicycle maintenance, and group riding etiquette. After that, we will go for a ride! This is the Carnation/Fall City Loop and this week's ride will take us on a beautiful farm road and over some gentle rolling hills. This route will be 19.3 miles at a STEADY pace on mostly flat terrain (with a gentle rollers later on to develop our skills and confidence). We'll be using lower traffic, country roads for this ride.
The Ride Leader(s) for this route will be leading a STEADY paced ride (12-14 mph on the flats with no headwinds or tailwinds). Those who wish to ride at a faster pace are welcome to do so, but it will then become a self-paced ride for them. Slower riders are also welcome to take the route at their own pace as this is a NO-DROP ride and we will regroup as needed along the way.
The clinic/talk will begin at 9 a.m. and the ride will begin at 9:45 a.m., so please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to ready your bike, sign the waiver and participate in the SMART safety briefing. (This week's topic will be the care and maintenance of your chain!)
For those that are interested, feel free to join us for a post-ride beverage/snack at Starbucks to talk about the ride and/or your cycling goals. (The yarn addicts in attendance will be visiting the Tolt Yarn shop after Starbucks and you're welcome to join along in that fun too!!!)
Riders are expected to have the following with them: a properly fitted helmet, water, a spare tube, a pump and other tools to change a flat tire.
