Free Group Ride
Seattle Half Century
Event has already happened.
Note: As I would like to see the ride done by approximately 2 PM, I will shorten the route as necessary based on the bail out points I note in the ride description.
This is a recreational ride focusing on distance for riders looking to maintain or increase their riding ability. Bring a water bottle or two to hydrate during the ride and some snacks to nibble on along the way to maintain riding. We will meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. There is a restroom at the start and three other restrooms along the route. Steady to moderate rain will cancel the official ride. In the event of showers at the start or during the ride I may shorten the route at any of the bail out points I note in the next paragraph. There will be a short break for coffee and pastries at Alki, or sooner if the route is shortened.
If you know the city and bike routes well enough, there are several bail out points for those that don't want to do the whole ride. At Seward park you can turn around and retrace the route back to Gas Works Park. The next is to return via Beacon Hill after crossing New Holly, there are alternate ways back to the ride start from this point. The two other bail out points are to skip the loop around West Seattle to Alki, and the loop around Magnolia. If you plan to ride only a portion of the route you become self guided. I advise being familiar with Seattle bike routes, having a map, or some sort of GPS device to assist. A cell phone and bus fare is also recommended.
Bring the necessary tools and items to repair or replace a flat tube and know how to use them. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign up for the ride and hear the pre-ride briefing so that we are ready to ride at 9:30. It's still the rainy season, at least a rear fender on your bike is recommended in consideration of riders behind you. A full set with buddy flaps will reduce how wet you get in the rain and make the ride more pleasant for you and everyone else on the ride.
Print your own cue sheets from the RideWithGPS link below if you are unfamiliar with any of the route. We will regroup as necessary after hills and at traffic lights. Riders riding slower or faster than the majority of the group will be self guided. Public restroom locations are noted on the RideWithGPS links as well. RSVP via the Meetup link below is appreciated but not required.
