CPC-Cycling in Pierce County — 3 Hills of Summit (Moderate)

CPC = Cycling in Pierce County!

Today’s ride is more of a training ride, and not very long so we’re not out in the forecasted rain too long.

We’ll start from De Coursey Park in Puyallup, do some warm up miles before tackling 3 different hills to the Summit area west of Puyallup. We’ll have some recovery time riding back down before hitting the next hill. 

The maximum grade on any of the 3 hills is 12% (and never for more than about 1/4 mile on 1 of the hills). Combining the 3 together should be a good workout and a very real sense of accomplishment for us.

Pace will probably be on the lower end of the range most of the time since there are hills and then recovery. We’re not racing. Faster riders are welcome to climb at their own pace and we will regroup at the top of the hills. Faster riders are also welcome to descend at their own pace, and we’ll regroup at the bottom.

Bathrooms at the park when we start. 

o Regroup Policy: Top and bottom of hills and/or when the route might be confusing.

o Weather Cancellation policy: Steady rain cancels (or snow/ice). But it will need to be heavy, steady rain. The current forecast is for rain, so be prepared to ride in the rain.

Please bring a cue sheet (you can print one from the link below) or load the route on your GPS.

If it is wet or raining, long fenders (with buddy flaps) are highly encouraged. No one wants to ride in someone's rooster tail. If the roads are wet and your bike is not equipped with fenders, you will be asked to ride at the rear to prevent spraying others. Mechanicals are the responsibility of each rider, so we will generally not ask the entire group to wait. Please be sure you have the equipment and knowledge to change a flat and handle whatever else comes up. Group will wait at ride leader's discretion.
