Costumed rides and tons of candy? Eww! You know what's better than a Halloween-themed bike ride? Suiting up in our same old, same old rain gear and going on a festive group Halloween Candy Buy-Back ride! Right?!
Meet at 10:30 a.m. in Meridian Park. If the weather is horrid, gather in the covered picnic area southeast of the play structure, east of the bathrooms. Otherwise, on the basketball circle.
We'll have art supplies to draw pictures for Operation Gratitude (see below) and then pedal to the Starbucks in Wallingford QFC for the candy buy-back event, which is running until noon.
After wrestling the bags of candy away from our wailing kids, let's head to Madi's house for a party with healthy (OK, and maybe some not-so-healthy) snacks. It's downhill in Wallingford, near John Stanford International School.
This will be a pretty short ride, just a bit over a mile and primarily flat and downhill.
We'll talk about the benefits of a healthy smile, take turns using the boot dryer, and stick any wet outerwear in the dryer.
(We're hoping to jinx the weather into behaving with all the talk of rain preparedness.)
Halloween Candy Buy-Back info:
Keith B. Wong, DDS, MS, Specialist in Orthodontics and staff will purchase wrapped candy for $1 per pound and donate the collection to Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is a non-profit charitable organization that provides holiday care packages to American servicemen and servicewomen stationed overseas. The candy donated through the Halloween Candy Buyback will be added to the care packages for our military service members. All trick-or-treaters who turn in their unwanted sweets will receive goodie bags with fun stuff (no candy!) and toothbrushes. Dr. Wong also encourages kids to write letters or draw pictures at the time of donation to be included in the care packages sent to our overseas service people.
