Let's Bike the East Link Extension!
Ride Contact
Event has already happened.
The East Link Extension of the light rail system to Redmond will open in 2023-2024, and we're going to ride to every single one of the future stations! We will meet above the International District/Chinatown light rail station on the brick area at the end of King St. off 5th Ave (505 5th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104). Parking can be found in parking lots/garages nearby. The Link light rail and First Hill Streetcar are the easiest ways to arrive at the start, and multiple bus lines serve the area.
We will visit each and every one of the light rail stations on the currently-in-progress East Link Extension, stopping at each to take a quick gander and/or picture. This route incorporates a lot of bike trails, bike lanes, and other routes to get from each station to the next. For the busier roads including highways, we will mostly take the sidewalk.
During the ride, we will take multiple restroom/water breaks, and we will have lunch at Ooba Tooba Mex Grill in downtown Redmond before returning to Seattle.
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to ride start (i.e. arrive at 9:30). Please sign the electronic waiver by creating a free account on the Cascade website. Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).
Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location. Cue sheets will not be provided, please print one if desired.
Restrooms: there are restrooms near the start/finish in the adjacent Union Station, Aubrey Davis Park (mile 4.6), Marymoor Park (mile 21.1), Ooba Tooba Mex Grill (mile 24.3), Gas Works Park (mile 38.5), and other optional sites along the way.
E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride for those with Class 1 or Class 2 e-bikes (Class 3 e-bikes are not allowed because we will be riding on some trails). See the Cascade Ebike FAQ’s link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
