Breakfast Bike Smiles and Styles 2023

• Cascade's 2023 Kaiser Permanente Bike Everywhere Breakfast was a who's who of bike supporters.

Judging from their big smiles and bright eyes, everyone who rode their bike to the Kaiser Permanente Bike Everywhere Breakfast had a great time. They came on every kind of bicycle--electric, road, gravel, folding, cargo, and more--wearing everything from business clothing to bike shorts.

May is Bike Everywhere Month, and everyone who pedaled to Cascade's big spring fundraiser showed that bicycling for transportation is a fun and healthy way to start the day.

Thanks to everyone who attended the breakfast to support our collective goal of Building a Bikeable Future. We exceeded our goal and its all thanks to our community! Cascade encourages everyone to substitute some car trips for bike trips in May. If you need any convincing, check out our favorite photos of the folks who pedaled to and from the breakfast. They arrived invigorated and pedaled away inspired.

Former Seattle Department of Transportation Director Sam Zimbabwe arrived on his styled out Faraday electric bike, above. Seattle Bike Blog founder Tom Fucoloro (below left), who was given Cascade's annual Doug Walker Award, arrived with family biking advocate Forrest Baum, who appeared in our Building a Bikeable Future video. 

 

 

Kae-Lin Wang, above, is the co-founder of Ampersand Bike Club and the operations coordinator at Bike Works. Hanoch Yeung, below, is the founder of Best Side Cycling--and an STP Ambassador who is preparing for his third Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland in July.

Researcher Ethan Campbell, above, was instrumental in the effort to repeal the inequitably enforced King County bike helmet law. Davey Oil, below, is the owner of G&O Family Cyclery and an ambassador for electric cargo biking. 

Tamara Kim-Schmautz, above, is the former president of the Cascade Board of Directors. Former Cascade Executive Director Richard Smith, below, came on his e-bike.

 

King County Council Chair Claudia Balducci, a bike and trail advocate, rode in with smiles.

REI's Michael Beetham arrived on his Yuba electric cargo bike. Thanks to REI for being a Cascade supporter. Merlin Rainwater, below, is a devoted volunteer with Cascade's Pedaling Relief Project and our Ride Leader Committee who uses bicycles for daily transportation.

Anna Zivarts (above), Program Director of the Disability Mobility Initiative within Disability Rights Washington, is a transit and bike-reliant low-vision mom who organizes people who can't and don't drive to speak up for their rights to safe streets

Bike advocate Kelli Refer, wife of Tom Fucoloro and executive director of Move Redmond, arrived on the family electric cargo bike with daughter Fiona on the back. Fiona enjoyed the bike bells Cascade gave away at the breakfast.
