The Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic presented by Alaska Airlines is a one-way ride from Seattle, WA, to Portland, OR. Every rider needs a plan for getting to the start line on Saturday morning. Once at the finish line, there are multiple services to help you and your bike get back to the Seattle start line at the University of Washington.

Parking and bike box add-ons are available at the start line on Friday and Saturday. Buses and bike transportation are sold out for 2023. See standby instructions for each below. All services are subject to limited availability. 

Pre-Ride Bus SOLD OUT

Arranged by Portland Bicycling Club, this service delivers riders and bikes to the University of Washington dorms in Seattle on the Friday before STP. Bus tickets and parking can be purchased on cascade.org. Parking at Start Line

Parking passes are available for purchase at the start line on Friday and Saturday. 

If you're driving to the start line, you can park your vehicle (including RVs/trailer campers) in the paid E-18 parking lot at UW. The lot opens on Friday and closes on Monday.

Purchase your parking pass in advance online or on Friday during early bag drop.

Post-Ride Bus  SOLD OUT

All buses and bike transport are now completely sold out! This includes the Friday bus from Portland to Seattle. 

If you would like to be on standby for a seat, please check in with the bus crews at the finish line and you may be able to get onto the last bus of the day. Read on for schedules. Standby bus/bike tickets are $100, cash only. Standby bike only tickets are $60, cash only.

Saturday Standby: check in by 8 p.m. to get on the standby list. Return by 8:50 p.m. and we’ll let you know if there’s space. Buses load from 9th Ave on the west side of DoubleTree Hotel.

Sunday Standby: check in when you arrive to get onto the standby list. Return at 6:50 p.m. and we’ll let you know if there’s space. Buses load from 9th Ave on the west side of DoubleTree Hotel.

Monday Standby: check in at 9 a.m. We’ll know by 9:30 a.m. if there is space. Buses load from the breezeway by the front door of DoubleTree Hotel.

Bus & Bike Transportation - Combo Package

  • Transportation for you by bus and for your bike by truck.
  • Your choice of Saturday, Sunday or Monday returns by bus.
  • Tandem riders must purchase two combo tickets.
  • Bikes arrive in Seattle on Sunday and Monday.
  • Limited standby tickets available in Portland. 
  • Important deadline: June 24, 2023 is the last day to purchase bus tickets to return to Seattle after the ride.

Bike-Only Transportation  SOLD OUT

  • Transportation for only your bike back to Seattle.
  • Tandem riders must purchase two bike-only tickets.
  • Bikes arrive in Seattle on Sunday and Monday.
  • Need to upgrade from bike-only to the combo bus & bike transportation package? Purchase the bike & bus package and then email info@cascade.org to request a refund of the bike-only ticket, minus a $5 handling fee.

Bike Box Transport

Bike box transportation is available for purchase at the start line on Friday and Saturday.

Intended for riders flying out of Portland after the ride, transporting bikes in boxes via Amtrak, or otherwise. One-way transportation for your personal bike box from the start line in Seattle to the finish line in Portland for $20.

Drop off your bike box at the start line in Seattle and pick it up at DoubleTree Hotel at the Portland finish line.

Post-Ride Bike Storage

  • Purchase in advance during registration or when you pick up your bike. See below for rates.
  • Charged to any bike left at the UW bike corral after 7 p.m. on Monday.
  • This is a courtesy and the cost covers the truck, labor and storage.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not provide any insurance to cover damages occurred in transport. Bikes are transported in trucks and covered in moving blankets. If you have concerns, we recommend you make other arrangements.

No refunds or replacements will be given for unused or lost tickets.

Bus & Bike Loading at Finish Line

(Location)

When should I load my bike? As soon as possible at the finish line to avoid transportation delays. Buses often arrive in Seattle before the bike trucks do. All bike trucks and buses load on NE 9th Ave, on the west side of the DoubleTree Hotel. Saturday and Sunday are the only days that you can load your bike. If you are returning to Seattle on a Monday morning bus, you must load your bike on Sunday. There will be a designated "Monday" arrival truck.

What do I need to pick up my bike in Seattle? Leave your bike number affixed to your bike; you or someone with a your rider bib number (or picture of it) will need this to pick it up in Seattle.

Buses depart as they fill and will not wait for riders. There are only two buses on Saturday and the last bus leaves at 9:15 p.m. sharp.

You do not have to load the bus at the same time that you load your bike. The later you load your bike, the longer you wait for it in Seattle. Bike trucks will often not arrive at the University of Washington bike corral until after 9 p.m.

Use the southern-most entrance to retrieve your bike and avoid paying for the lot. Present your rider bib (or photo) and we'll match you with your bike.

Any bike left in the corral at 7 p.m. on Monday will be transported to Cascade Bicycle Club.
