Produce Rescue | Beacon Food Forest

This month's food bank volunteer needs

Important event details:

Meet us on Fridays at 11:30am.

Meet at the Beacon Food Forest - The P-Patch is located in the southwestern corner of Jefferson Park

The Address of the Beacon Food Forest is S Dakota St, Seattle, WA 98108 and we’ll be meeting in the area with the raised garden beds at the north of the P-Patch along the cycling path (map)

What to bring:

  • Mask (if you plan on entering the food bank)
  • Gardening gloves & clippers (the garden will have a limited number of extra gloves and clippers, so we recommend that you bring your own if you are able)
  • Bags - ether plastic or paper if you have them - Bring extra paper or plastic bags if you would like to dominate them to the food forest!

Once you arrive, check in with Alex (he is the one CC'd on this email). He is the Garden Lead at the P-Patch and he will show you around the garden and answer any questions you have about their garden or gardening in general. After that he will direct you to the area and plants that need to be harvested for the food bank donation and show how to harvest them.

Finally after everything is harvested we’ll load up our bikes and ride over to the local Rainier Valley Food Bank together!

Time commitment:

It generally takes an hour to harvest, clean (if needed), bag the produce, and bike it to the food bank.

Please take healthy precautions by wearing a mask, putting on full finger gloves when handling the grocery bags and use hand sanitizer between every delivery drop off.
