University District Food Bank food rescue ride details
Important event details:
Reduce food waste and help feed the community by rescuing food from a local grocery store and bike it to the University District Food Bank. Ride with 5 to 7 other pedaling volunteers to bike to grocery stores in the University District in order to rescue valuable and nutritious food for the University District Food Bank grocery program. If you don't have a cargo bike or bike trailer, let us know we have a whole fleet of bike trailers that we are more than happy to lend out!
When and Where we will start the food rescue ride:
Meet us on Friday mornings at 9:45am just inside of the large garage door in front of the U District Food Bank.
The Address of of the food bank is 5017 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105 (map).
How:
After everyone arrives we hook up the bike trailers to the volunteers who requested them. We will be riding down to the Trader Joe's in the U District and then up to the Safeway on 75th.
If you only have panniers, no worries as there will be a lot of pre-packaged foods and foods in containers such as milk that you can help rescue!
Safety:
Please take healthy precautions by wearing a mask, putting on full finger gloves when handling the boxes and packaged food and use hand sanitizer before and after the food rescue.
Bike Trailers:
If you indicated that you would like to borrow a bike trailer from us in the sign-up form we will have those trailers for you when you arrive at the U District Food Bank.
For returning the trailer, please drop it back off with me at the U District Food Bank after the food rescue. If for any reason you are unable to drop the trailer back off please don't hesitate to call me at my phone number below and we'll figure out a way for you to get the trailer back to me.
Coffee and Pastries:
For anyone who is interested we will be going to a local bakery / coffee shop / donut shop / biscuits shop after the food rescue.
