It generally takes around 30 minutes to pack up the produce that is being donated and bike it over to the Byrd Barr Place food bank.
What to bring:
- Mask (if you plan on entering the food bank)
- Full finger gloves (to make it easier to repack any produce)
- Bike bags, a bike trailer, or a cargo bike (The produce that Alleycat Acres will be pre-packed into banana boxes)
Once you arrive Steve, who is the Garden Lead at the urban farm will show to where he has the produce ready to go for you. Contact info for Steve will be emailed to you. If you don't see Steve around that probably means that he is out at one of the other Common Acre urban farms directing volunteers. He will leave the produce that the urban farm is donating to the food bank in front of his garage door.
Once you have the produce loaded onto your bike you'll pedal on over to the Byrd Barr Place food bank!
After that she’ll show you the produce that they would like to donate to the food bank and help you load up your bikes. Jennifer will have the produce already bagged for you.
Where you will be donating the produce to:
You will be donating the rescued produce to the Byrd Barr Place food bank so that they can then distribute the produce out to families in the Central District who are experiencing food insecurity.

When you arrive at the food bank please have a food bank staff member weigh the produce that you are dropping off and email me final weight of the produce that we are rescuing for the food bank. This helps us keep track of all of the wonderful community support work our volunteers are doing. It also help if you send a photo of the rescued produce packed onto your bike, too!
