This is a casual ride from the University of Washington light rail station in Seattle to the new Northgate light rail station and back in a loop. We’ll ride a variety of bike infrastructure as we visit new transit stations and even a historic one. The ride is on paved surfaces except for 2 blocks of hard-packed gravel near the beginning. We will briefly stop at each new light rail station, a historic site, and in the middle for coffee/snacks.
We will meet on street level outside the University of Washington light rail station off Montlake Blvd NE near Husky Stadium in Seattle. Bicycle access is just off the Burke-Gilman Trail. Parking can be found in lots and garages nearby. Transit access includes the University of Washington light rail station and numerous King County Metro Bus routes that serve it nearby.
Please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will stop at the following locations along the route: U District Station (mile 1.2), Roosevelt Station (mile 2.4), Northgate Station & John Lewis Memorial Bridge (mile 4.8), coffee/snack break at Pilgrim Coffeehouse (mile 5.6), Historic Greenwood Station (mile 6.6), restroom & water break at Green Lake Small Craft Center (mile 8.5).
Please note: this ride is expected to last around 2-3 hours.
Click Register Now above if you would like to attend this ride.
Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).
Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location.
Restrooms: there are restrooms at Pilgrim Coffeehouse (mile 5.6) and Green Lake Small Craft Center (mile 8.5).
Cue sheet: Route link cue sheets will not be provided. Please print one using the RideWithGPS link below if desired.
E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride. Please consult the "Can I ride my e-bike on a Free Group Ride?" section on the Cascade Free Group Ride FAQ's link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.

Minor registration
Hi Robert,
My 14-year old child will also participate in this ride. She has ridden a couple of times at Cascade bike club with me, so she is familiar with the routines.
I understand that I have to get bike leader's approval every time she attends, so please let me if you are OK with her participation.
Thanks!
Re: Minor registration
Hi Mike, that sounds great! I'm going to contact you directly via e-mail.
For anyone wondering about Cascade's policy on bringing minors on rides, here is some information: https://cascade.org/rides-and-events-free-group-rides/information-parents
Happy biking!
Weather
At this time (Saturday morning) the weather is looking somewhat dismal for tomorrow's ride. Even though there may not be 'ice or snow', if consistently raining, I will not be attending the ride. So -- am wondering if I should cancel now or wait to see what tomorrow actually does???
Cancel
I will not be able to join the ride this morning. Please cancel my sign up.
