This week it's a crowd-favorite counterclockwise MUMPS loop around Lake Washington, with a scenic detour through Beaux Arts Village, Enetai, Eastland, Medina and across the 520 trail to the Kirkland waterfront and back to the start.

Starting time and location: Ride starts at 10 AM at Log Boom Park in Kenmore, where there are restrooms & water.

Parking: Please do not park in the Log Boom parking lot as we should reserve that for park users.  Use the on-street parking on NE 175th St. just east of the park.

Pace: This is a Moderate-paced ride (14-16 mph), on the same route as the Brisk and Vigorous-paced MUMPS groups. Riders are welcome to start at Moderate, Brisk or Vigorous pace, and move to another group later - please pre-register for all anticipated pace(s) so that ride leaders have your contact information.  The planned route and cue sheet is at the link below. The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace.  Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group. We'll observe the speed limit on multi-use trails.

Restrooms:  There are planned restroom stops at Matthews Beach Park (mile 5, optional), Seward Park (mile 19), Coulon Park (mile 27), and Kirkland Marina Park (mile 45).

Food: There will be no food stops - bring snacks and water for nutrition and hydration as needed.  Brief snacking and hydration time will be allocated at each restroom stop.

Cancellation: Forecast for rain or unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the cancellation will be posted in the Comments section below, at least 2 hours before the start and the ride leader will not be at the start.

IMPORTANT: Each pace ride leader will make a weather cancellation decision independently, so one pace group may cancel while others ride, and one group may take a shortcut, while another may not. This could change your options for moving between pace groups, so know your options accordingly.

Fenders: Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long mud flaps if rain is expected or the roads are wet. You may ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders you must drop to the back of the group.

Fender Length: Rule of thumb "try for 2, but 4 MAY do"; try for a fender that is 2 inches off the floor to keep from spraying others (4 inches at a minimum, but that may still have you riding in the back in wet weather).  In fact, if you do have fenders which are length compliant but they are not stable or functional - you may end up riding in the back.  Please make sure that your fenders work.  Please see the image below for consideration of appropriate fender length.  A visual inspection is not sufficient to determine appropriate length.  We want to assure the safety and comfort of all riders.

Repairs: Be prepared with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (ORCA card and/or someone to call). If you have a problem, the group will stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we will not wait for substantial repairs to be completed.

Safety talk and on time-departure:  Please be at the start and ready to ride at least 15 minutes prior to ride start time, to participate in the pre-ride briefing and safety talk at 9:50 AM. The ride rolls out at 10 AM.  Those who do not hear the pre-ride safety briefing will not be able to join the ride.

Pre-registration:  Please register by clicking the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page, to save time at the start (and enable the leader to email you in case of changes/cancellation). You don't need to un-register or comment about it if you can't make it to the ride. If you are unable to pre-register in time, you can sign up at the starting point by no later than 9:45 AM.

THE WAIVER WILL BE PRINTED BY 7AM - PLEASE PRE-REGISTER BEFORE 7AM.

We hope you can join us!

Comments

As of 16 March, Cascade Bicycle Club and the Rides Committee have decided to suspend Free Group Rides through the end of March and reevaluate the situation surrounding the coronavirus at that time.

Bicycling is still a great way to exercise and boost your immune system during this time of public health advisory. We encourage you to find a way to continue to ride your bike in a responsible and safe way during the upcoming weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these difficult times. We look forward to riding as a group again soon. Stay safe and healthy.
