We'll ride over to Ballard and do a gradual climb to Sunset Hill Park. We'll stop here to enjoy the view of Shilshole Marina, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains (clouds permitting). From here we'll meander up north and then head back south on the Interurban route. Then on to Matthews Beach and the Burke Gilman Trail. We'll head toward the UW campus, explore some gravel trails in the Union Bay Natural Area, and stop for photos. From here it's back to Gas Works.
This route includes a few short gravel sections, mostly in the Union Bay Natural Area. The trail is fairly smooth, but expect a few loose areas and some puddles. Recommend tires that are at least 28mm wide. Something in the 30s will be more comfortable.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for our pre-ride safety briefing.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup as needed to keep the group together.
Restrooms are available at the start. There are two optional restroom stops along the route. We'll use these if needed.
You are encouraged to pre-register by clicking the red "Register Now" button above. There is no need to unregister if you decide not to ride.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
There is no food stop, so bring a snack.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start, and the Ride Leader will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!

Thanks for the warning on gravel and wider tires. My tires are 25 and I freak out on even a even a little bit of loose stuff.
