Join us for Ride On After Dark (ROAD) starting at Element Cycles in Redmond every Wednesday at 6:00 pm through the end of March. There will be three different pace groups this week:
- Steady (12-14 mph on the flats)
- Moderate (14-16 mph)
- Brisk (16-18 mph)
(We are unable to offer the vigorous (18-20 mph) pace this week.)
Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group; know how to read a cue sheet or make it home should they become separated from the group; know how to change a flat (and have the requisite equipment -- groups will not stop for mechanical issues); and have a positive attitude! Because this is a series with multiple paces, we will regroup at the tops of hills, but ask that riders who are unable to keep up to drop back a pace.
Routes: The routes will be posted in the comments below once finalized, typically on the day before the ride. The route for the Steady and Moderate groups will typically be around 20 miles with up to 1,200 feet of elevation gain. The Brisk (and Vigorous when available) groups will use the same base route with the addition of one or more bonus hills.
Lights: This is an after dark ride; you must come equipped with a headlight (bright enough to light up the road in front of you, and visible to 500 feet) and a taillight. Remember to charge your lights before the ride! Also note that Washington state law requires a red rear reflector when riding at night.
Fenders: If the roads are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry. If you do not have fenders, you may be asked to ride at the back of the group.
Ride start: Please be ready to ride 15 minutes before the start of the ride to sign the liability waiver and hear the safety briefing. Water and restrooms are available inside of Element. For people driving to the start, there is plenty of parking in the lot to the west of Element. For people biking to the start, the parking lot is only a block away from the Sammamish River Trail.
Registration: To save time at the ride start, you are encouraged to sign the online waiver by clicking the red “Register Now” button above. There is no need to un-register if you decide not to ride.
Weather cancellation: Steady rain cancels, or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
