This week we ride around Lake Washington, with a scenic detour through Beaux Arts Village, Enatai, Eastland and Medina. This "lite" version of a MUMPS favorite has gentler "off-season" climbing, including Points Drive instead of the 520 trail to the Kirkland waterfront.
Starting time and location: Ride starts at 10 am at Log Boom Park in Kenmore, where there are restrooms & water.
Parking: Please do not park in the Log Boom parking lot; use the on-street parking on NE 175th St. just east of the park.
Pace: The MUMPS series offers multiple paces. Riders are welcome change pace groups during the ride. We'll observe the speed limit on multi-use trails.
Navigation: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link below. The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
Restrooms: There are planned restroom stops at Matthews Beach Park (mile 5, quick), Seward Park (mile 19, quick), Coulon Park (mile 27), and Kirkland Marina Park (mile 45, quick).
Food: Enjoy the snacks you bring with you at any of the rest stops. The brisk group does not make a coffee stop, however the Moderate group will stop at Starbucks at mile 29.4, and brisk riders may join them for coffee (and the ride back to the start) if they wish.
Cancellation: Forecast for rain or unsafe riding conditions will be cause for cancellation, in which case the cancellation will be posted in the Comments section below, at least 2 hours before the start and the ride leader will not be at the start.
IMPORTANT: Each pace ride leader will make a weather cancellation decision independently, so one pace group may cancel while another rides, and one group may take a shortcut, while another may not. This could change your options for moving between pace groups.
Fenders: Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long mud flaps if rain is expected or the roads are wet. You may ride with us without them, but if you are spraying other riders you will need to drop to the back of the group.
Fender Length: Rule of thumb "try for 2, but 4 will do"; try for a fender that is 2 inches off the floor to keep from spraying others (4 inches at a minimum, but that may still have you riding in the back in wet weather).
Repairs: Be prepared with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (ORCA card or someone to call). If you have a problem, the group may stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we will not wait for repairs to be completed.
Safety talk and on time-departure: Please be at the start and ready to ride at least 15 minutes prior to ride start time, to participate in the pre-ride briefing and safety talk. The ride rolls out at 10 a.m.
Pre-registration: Please register at least two hours in advance by clicking the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page, to save time at the start (and enable the leader to email you in case of changes/cancellation).
You'll need to open a "basic" Cascade Bicycle Club account (at no charge) to pre-register. You don't need to un-register if you can't make it to the ride. If you are unable to pre-register in time, you can sign up at the start.
We hope you can join us!

MUMPS Rainy Season Fender Update- PLEASE READ
We like to ride without the distraction of trying to avoid road spray. To that end:
*** Bikes with fenders/flaps over 4" from the road must stay behind the group AT ALL TIMES during rainy season MUMPS rides ***
If you have stable fenders with flaps <2" from the ground, you are good to go! If they are between 2" and 4" you can still ride in the group, but be prepared to yield to the sub-2" crowd when the roads are wet.
Please get out the ruler, do a flap check, and adjust as needed (or plan to ride behind the group).
2" flaps are remarkably effective, and can transform your group ride experience in wet weather. Hope you can join us (and find out for yourself!)
