Gravel Ride--Carnation-Rattlesnake Lake
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
Ride the gravel Snoqualmie Valley Trail from Carnation to Rattlesnake Lake and back. The surface is mostly packed gravel, with a stretch of pavement between the Tokul Road tunnel and the Mt Si Golf Course that is a tad over 3 miles each way. Bring a bike with at least 700x28 tires--a hybrid, cross-bike, or mountain bike all will work. While there are no notable hills, this out and back route has a 1-2% grade for the 10 miles from Carnation to Tokul Road and again for the 7 miles from North Bend to Rattlesnake Lake. Since pedaling on gravel is more difficult, our actual speed will be lower and our exertion higher than for the equivalent distance on roads.
There is a porta-pot but no water at the start, and restrooms with water at Centennial Park/Mile 12.8 and the Cedar River Watershed Education Center at Rattlesnake Lake/Mile 22.7. There's no lunch stop, so carry food for this distance.
A Ride With GPS route map and cue sheet are at the link. If you want a cue sheet, please print one. Bring ID; spare tube, pump, patch kit, tools, and skills to repair flats; a cell phone; and a plan for rescue should your bike fail. As this is an out and back ride, riders can return to the start at any time if the need arises.
Please RSVP by clicking on the red "Register Now" button under the ride title above. This will save us time at the start. NOTE: I will close registration at 7 AM on ride day so I can print the waiver. If you find registration closed, come to the start and sign in there.
The listed phone will not be answered on the morning of the ride and its voicemail will not be checked. If weather conditions meet the "Showers cancel" criterion, I will post a ride-cancelled note in Comments, below, at least 2 hours prior and not go to the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.
