We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running a spring training series for 2019 with three paces offered (Steady 12 - 14 mph, Moderate 14 -16 mph, Brisk 16 - 18 mph).
COOS will run for thirteen Saturdays, from April 6 through June 29. COOS is a training series to build endurance and strength. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a century. All paces will use a common route each week.
For ride #9: A dam ride, Mud Mountain Dam that is. We’ll head out to Orting, up the gentle incline of the Foothills trail to South Prairie and on to Buckley. We leave Buckley on a short stretch of Hwy 410 connecting to Mud Mountain Rd which will take us to the Dam. This section includes a 2-mile climb where you will be surrounded by trees, birds chirping and very few cars. At the Dam will be a short restroom break. Heading back down the hill you just climbed, we turn north and enjoy the sights and smells of the Enumclaw plateau farmland. Don't miss the Mt. Peak Alpaca farm on 284th and if the weather cooperates a view of Mt. Rainier will be waiting to greet us as we make a left on 456th on our way to a mid-point stop for coffee and pie. .
Potty Stops: Restrooms at the start, mile 18, 36, 51 (lunch stop).
If you are unable to sustain the pace, you are encouraged to drop to the slower pace if available.
Please register for the ride using the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and saves time at the ride start. On-line registration closes two hours prior to ride time, if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually.
New riders, we are very happy to have you with us. Please read the New Rider link, above, and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides.
Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and as needed.
Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast.
A route map and cue sheet are on the Ride With GPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior to the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.

Time of Ride
We would like to do this ride tomorrow. If it starts at 8AM
and has several stops including lunch, when do you think we will be finished and back at the start?
COOS #9
It all depends on your pace - A good rule of thumb is 11 - 12 miles per hour including stops.
