Ride Description:

We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running a spring training series for 2019 with three paces offered (Steady 12 - 14 mph, Moderate 14 -16 mph, Brisk 16 - 18 mph).

COOS will run for thirteen Saturdays, from April 6 through June 29. COOS is a training series to build endurance and strength. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a century. All paces will use a common route each week.

For ride #5:   A favorite, this route takes us to the Black Diamond Bakery. It's a flat warm-up, then a gentle climb up Auburn-Black Diamond Road. We have a couple short 'pitchy' hills as we make our way through some quiet residential areas and on to the bakery. Our return includes a fast downhill on 218th to the Green Valley Road with flat roads back to Sumner. This ride is a mix of everything, a bit of 'city' riding, country riding, flats, and hills ... not to mention the smells of the bakery along with the smells of the farmland.

Potty Stops: Restrooms at the start,  mile 23 .. no planned stops before the bakery.

If you are unable to sustain the pace, you are encouraged to drop to the slower pace if available.

Please register for the ride using the red "Register Now" button at the top of this page. Registration is not mandatory but it allows us to print the rider list beforehand and saves time at the ride start.  On-line registration closes two hours prior to ride time, if you decide to ride after that we will have a waiver sheet for you to sign manually.

New riders, we are very happy to have you with us.  Please read the New Rider link, above, and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides.

Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire.  Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and as needed.

Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.

Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast.

A route map and cue sheet are on the Ride With GPS link, below.  If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it.  The ride leader will not have extra copies.

Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior to the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.

Hi Everyone, as a friendly reminder, the rider count for each pace is at
8:45 with the S.M.A.R.T talk to follow. Please arrive early enough to get
your bike and self ready, use the restroom if needed and be standing with
your group pace by 8:45. The miles and elevation are starting to make a
difference in keeping up with your group pace. If you are struggling to keep
pace, get behind the leader or at least closer to the front of the group. If
you would feel more suited in the slower pace during the ride, another group
will be behind you and will pick you up. The Steady group will not have
another pace to fall back on, it is up to you to print a cue sheet or upload
the route so you can self navigate to the finish (buddy up with another
rider) if needed. The Sweep needs to stay with the group for safety reasons.
I'm looking forward to a fun ride!
