Time to ride on some roads less travelled, and today to the renowned Sluys Bakery in scenic Poulsbo. (more about Sluys starting at minute 11 in this PBS special: A Few Great Bakeries Today's ride starts at the Seattle Washington State Ferry terminal. We'll take the 0835 ferry bound for Bremerton. Please arrive in time to purchase your ticket ($9.35) at the car toll gate (Don't take your bike into the ferry terminal.) We'll then meet onboard in the cafe for our pre-ride briefing during the hour-long crossing.
Our route will take us north through Bremerton up to Rocky Point, then northwards to Silverdale and out to old Bangor. From there we continue north to Liberty Bay to the delightful Norwegian-influenced town of Poulsbo and the bakery. After enjoying our treats, we'll follow the Lemolo waterfront south to Agate Pass, and cross the bridge to Bainbridge Island, where we'll ride to catch the 35 minute ferry back to Seattle. (The ferry in this direction is free.)
Our goal will be to stay together, with regroups at the top of bigger hills and at all critical turns along the way. We'll also enjoy some opportunities for photos at nice viewpoints. Please come prepared with the necessary equipment you may need to take care of flats or other mechanical problems. A cue sheet is available for you to print (at the link below) and is good to have in case you happen to get separated from the group.
There are restrooms at the ferry terminal and onboard the vessel. There are also restrooms at the Silverdale waterfront park at mile 15 and at Liberty Bay waterfront park in Poulsbo (mile 36) near the bakery. Bring cash for treats and coffee.
Please make sure to arrive in time to purchase your ticket and be ready to board the ferry by 0830. We will have our safety brief onboard as we cross. As is required with all Cascade rides, please ensure you wear a helmet. Come prepared with gear that is comfortable and appropriate for the distance/elevation/weather conditions.
