Looking for a good ride on gravel in the Chehalis area?  Or are you looking for something to do while waiting for the STP rider you're supporting?  Come ride the Willapa Hills Trail from Adna to Pe Ell and back.  It's a very scenic rural ramble on a new-ish rail trail in great surroundings.

Porta-pot at the start.  Water and restrooms in Pe Ell, with purchase.  No sit-down lunch stop, so bring fuel for this distance.  The riding surface is gravel, except for the on-street turnaround through the center of Pe Ell.   Please note that the gravel has not yet been packed down, so it is frequently loose.  Bring a road bike with at least 700x28 tires, or a cross-bike or mountain bike.  I will be riding a cross-bike.

Directions to the start from I-5 Exit 77 in Chehalis are at the Directions link, below.  Allow 2 to 2.5 hours to get to Adna from Seattle.  A Discover Pass or State Parks day pass is required to park at the Adna Trailhead.  Washington State Parks does not list Willapa Hills Trail as a park that has on-site pass purchase, so buying ahead would be prudent.  If you do not have a Discover Pass and want to purchase one, see the Discover Pass Link, below.  If you want only a one-day pass, see the One-Day Pass Link, below.

Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump, and skills to fix flats, and have a phone and plan for rescue in case your bike fails. A Ride With GPS map file and cue sheet are at the Route Link, below.  If you want a cue sheet, please print and bring it.

Please RSVP by clicking on the red "Register Now" button under the ride title above.  This will save us time at the start.

The listed phone number will not be answered on the day of the ride.  If "Showers cancel" conditions exist on ride day, I will not go to the start.  In that case I'll post a ride-cancelled message in the Comments block below, not later than three hours prior to start time.

It’s a bit of a drive, but Ben and I hope to join you. If plans change, will give you a shout. Ben is now old enough to do the Redmond Derby Days Kids criterium race. He wants to try it, but maybe best to wait a year.
