The Netherlands: The Most Bike-Friendly Place on Earth- But WHY?

Open
When:
Thu. Jan 18, 2018 7:00pm

The Netherlands is universally acclaimed as the most bike-friendly country in the world. By almost any measure, whether it's the astounding bike facilities, extensive network of bike paths, or the amazing number of folks who use bikes almost daily, it leads the pack.  But why? Join longtime Cascade members Jeff & Louise Davis in taking a look at the love affair the Dutch have long had with cycling, and how that was challenged by the rise of automobile ownership and use following WWII. We'll explore the shock in the early 1970s at the number of cyclists and pedestrians being killed or injured by motor vehicles led the Dutch to rethink their entire infrastructure.

This presentation is free and open to the public, and will last approximatley an hour.
