Exploring Maritime Seattle--Montlake to the Locks and Back
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
Just getting into, or back into, cycling? Want to ride with others? This is an easy jaunt from the Montlake neighborhood west along the Ship Canal to the Locks and back. We'll use low-traffic streets, the Burke-Gilman Trail, and the Canal Trail. Along the way we'll see miles of marinas and shipyards, check out Rapunzel as we cross the Fremont Bridge, and look in on the fishing fleet's base at Fishermen's Terminal.
We meet at Montlake Bicycle Shop, on the corner of 24th Avenue E and E Lynn Street. Any kind of bike will do, and if you don't have one you can get a rental from the bike shop. There is a restroom and water at the start. No lunch stop, so bring a snack. Please be ready to ride by 10:15 AM so we can have the safety talk and roll on time.
This ride is easily accessible by bus and/or light rail. If you drive, please don't park at the bike shop or in front of other businesses, and be aware of nearby street parking time limits. Please RSVP by clicking on the red Register Now button at the top of this page. Then put a checkmark in the waiver release box, complete the contact information, and click on Save. By doing this you will save time at the ride start. Note that this on-line RSVP requires a Cascade Bicycle Club account, which is easy to set up, but if you don't want one just come anyway and sign the hard-copy attendance/hold harmless sheet.
The listed phone number won't be answered on the morning of the ride. If the weather meets the showers-cancel threshold, I will post a cancellation notice in the Comments block below at least 2 hours prior and not go to the start.
