An out-and-back ride from the White River Ranger Station to Sunrise at Mt Rainier. This is a beautiful classic route that starts with 4 miles of rolling National Park roadway to the White River Bridge, where the 10-mile climb to the Sunrise Visitor Center begins. The route is reversed for the return to the start.
The entry fee to Mt Rainier National Park for a private non-commercial vehicle that seats up to 15 people is $25. The entry fee for a bicyclist is $10. Water and bathrooms are at the start, and at Sunrise. The Sunrise Day Lodge has a snack bar and food for sale.
Please note that this ride is posted as Moderate pace, but Cascade has no set pace during climbing and descending. Because the ascent to Sunrise is so long, faster climbers may decide to proceed at their own speed. The baseline consideration for coming is that you can comfortably stay with the group on Cascade rides posted as Moderate.
The forecast is for good weather, but this is a mountain route with conditions subject to change. Even on a warm day the long descent can be chilly. Riders must carry an extra layer such as a vest and sun sleeves/arm warmers, or a light jacket. As on all Cascade rides, bring tools and knowledge to repair flats, and a cell phone and plan for rescue should you have a serious mechanical failure. Remember that there can be limited to zero cell coverage in the National Park.
NOTE: Registrations for this ride closed at 11 AM on Saturday. But there is no limit on riders, so just show up and sign the paper hold-harmless waiver.
The listed phone number won't be answered after 8 AM on Saturday the 26th. If Sunday's weather conditions at Mt Rainier meet the Showers Cancel criteria, I will post a ride-cancelled notice in Comments, below, by 5:30 AM. A good indicator of weather at Sunrise is an on-line forecast for Crystal Mountain. I have had success with Weather.com.
