New This Year Registration: Riders can register between 10AM and 4PM Friday August 5th and Saturday August 6th at the Port Angeles Visitor Center located at 121 E. Railroad Ave.

New This year: For our Vancouver Island guests, there will be registration on the 6:10AM Victoria departure of the Coho Ferry Sunday morning. This will allow cyclists to proceed directly to the ridge road without stopping at Peninsula College. The event will have a shuttle meet the ferry in Port Angeles for any riders that would like to have gear transported to the Peninsula College registration.

-Parking: If you are doing the longer 36 mile ride then Peninsula College is where you will park. For those of you wanting to do the 24 mile ride which starts at the Heart Of The Hills Hurricane Ridge entrance gate you are allowed to drive your car to this location where you will be directed to a parking area. Remember to go to the registration prior to driving to Heart Of The Hills. You will not be able to go past the Hurricane Ridge gate without having the registration wrist band.

-Start time: Registration opens at 6AM and riders starting from Peninsula College parking lot are allowed to head up the lower ridge road after registration. The Heart Of The Hills entrance gate will not open until 7AM so if you arrive at the gate before then you will have to wait.

-Ride Details: You have choices regarding the length and difficulty of your ride. The 24 mile round trip starts at Heart Of The Hills at roughly 1800 feet, and the 36 mile RT from Peninsula College starts at 350’, summit is at 5200’. A third ride option is available for riders that want to ride from sea level to the Hurricane Ridge summit of 5200’. This additional portion will start at Peninsula College, then heads down Ennis Street to the former Rayonier Mill site where you can access the Olympic Discovery Trail. Take the ODT trail to Francis Street Park then head up Francis St. four blocks and turn left on 101/E. First Street. Take 101 one block and turn right on Race Street and continue on Race to Hurricane Ridge. This additional portion will add 4.5 miles

Rest and aid stations on the upper ridge road will be every few miles and we will supply snacks, water, toilets, and two of the stops will have bike tools and some limited parts. A medic and aid vehicle will be positioned at the half way point. At the summit we encourage you to have your photo taken with a giant Ride The Hurricane logo and the Olympic Mountains in the background. Photos will be available on line after the event. Refreshments will be available at the Summit House. You are welcome to start down whenever you wish and the ride down can be cold so bring some extra gear. Please keep your speed below 35MPH, and remember to stay in the right lane both on your way up and down the ridge road. The park will have rangers positioned on the road and will be monitoring speeds. Just giving you fair warning; the rangers are within their rights to issue speeding tickets to anyone going over 35MPH. If you would like to ride the ridge or a portion of the ridge road a 2nd time you are welcome to do so. However all riders must be off the road and at the bottom by noon when the road reopens to the public and vehicles. Remember the lower ridge road is not closed to traffic so please stay to the far right. This is the section from Peninsula College to Heart Of The Hills.

-Celebrate: Many of you requested an after event get together to celebrate the ride and simply share the ride experience. We are offering beverages and snacks just off the parking lot of Peninsula College. This will be set up by 10:30AM and we will keep it going until about 1PM. For those of you parking at Heart Of The Hills simply drive down to the Peninsula College lot, which is where you registered and there will be plenty of space to park and join in the celebration get together.
