BEAVERTON, Ore.—NW Bicycle Safety Council (NWBSC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring safety for bicycle riders and others who share the road, is hosting its eight annual fundraising bike ride Beaverton, Banks, and Beyond Bicycle Tour.

This is a beautiful self-guided bicycle tour being held on Saturday, August 20th, from Papa’s Pizza Parlor located at 15700 Blueridge Drive in Beaverton, Oregon (near Terpenning Recreation Complex) to Stub Stewart State Park in Buxton, with an option to explore Vernonia and return. This scenic, fundraising ride has a moderately challenging 100 and 64-mile bike tour that explores beautiful farmlands as you wind through the country roads of North Plains and work your way toward the paved Banks-Vernonia State Trail in Banks, which is rider-friendly to both road and mountain bikes.  A 35-mile option is also available that includes two rest stops, where you will receive snacks and refreshments provided by NW Bicycle Safety Council Sponsors and served by Community Volunteers in North Plains.

While traveling the rural roads of Washington County, enjoy the serenity of the countryside, glimpses of wildlife, and the company of others. Visit the City of Banks Historical Log Cabin Park, where you will enjoy the snacks and refreshments provided by our food sponsors and NW Bicycle Safety Council.

After leaving the road, discover the hidden treasure of tree-lined canopies and ever-changing scenery on the Banks-Vernonia Trail as you work your way toward the vista for the mid-point rest area on the L.L. Stub Stewart State Park.

The Hill Top Day-Use Area of Stub Stewart State Park, with its views of the Coastal Range, is the turnaround point for the metric century. Rest and enjoy our well-planned snacks and refreshments served by Starbucks Volunteers and bicycle repair assistance provided by Bike Gallery.  More refreshments and food await you in Anderson Park should you choose the 100-mile-tour to Vernonia and back. This stop is supported by the residents of Vernonia (NWBSC volunteers) who will be serving you.

On your return, you will be rewarded with some sweeping smooth descents through forested corridors as you stop or pass through Banks, Oregon toward the City of Beaverton. You will experience the Mountaindale Roy area once again as you stop to enjoy more snacks and refreshments at Townsend Berry Farm for a light snack and water. Anticipate more spectacular countryside as you take a different route back to the starting point where your meal choice awaits you at Papa’s Pizza Parlor.

The route for Beaverton, Banks and Beyond Bicycle Tour is known for being clearly marked outbound and inbound.  In addition, there will be SAG vehicles throughout the day and four 2-man bicycle teams serving as course marshals along the trail as well as mechanical support at the rest stops.

Papa’s Pizza will provide your freshly prepared meal at the end of the ride (served between 11:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.).  Plan your ride accordingly.

Ride Facts:

Online registration is now available.  After registering, jersey and/or meal purchases, a map of the route is available for download after check-out.  Cue sheets may be picked up during check-in. Day-of-ride registration is available.

Color route maps and Cue Sheets will be provided on the morning of the event as part of the check-in process.  You will receive your ID bracelet, map, and special instructions at that time.

The first 10 miles are flat and graduate to about a 2% grade.  If you ride all the way to Vernonia, you will experience a 2 to 5% grade.  The 100 mile route is only moderately difficult but very beautiful.  Should you change your mind about the 100, you can choose to shorten your ride, just turn around at any point and follow the Dan Henry’s back to Beaverton.

The route will be marked with “Dan Henry’s” and various signs posted on stop signs, power poles, and small sandwich boards.
