The Summer Seersucker Social
When:
Sat. Jul 23, 2016 10:00am
This vintage event of the summer will take place on Saturday, July 23rd starting at 10:00 a.m. In the afternoon, there will be parasols, picnics and pedaling along scenic country lanes.
Our 10 mile bike ride will depart from the La Conner Channel Lodge at 11 a.m. and will return to the same about 2 p.m. Riders can picnic and stroll around town as they make their way to the ice cream social at the La Conner Civic Garden Club.
The Summer Seersucker comes on the heels of the successful Dandy Daffodil Tweed Ride. The purpose of these rides is to bring together those interested in vintage style and bike riding and to shift people’s perceptions when it comes to biking. It’s not just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. It’s really an idea or a notion that a lot of people relate to or find inspiration in.
If you can attend it’s best to leave the Lycra and spandex at home. Instead, opt for something a bit more stylish — like a vintage seersucker suit, leather lace-up shoes and a flat cap. While you’re at it, swap out your usual MP3 playlist for a 1920s jazz-inspired lineup.
If you can’t make the ride but still want to celebrate, the after party is not to be missed. It’s a great way to experience what it must have been like in the 20s and 30s. There are a lot of elements of that era that are worth bringing back.
Any proceeds collected from this revelry shall be donated to the La Conner Library Foundation. (www.laconnerlibraryfoundation.org)
