While traditionally a kickoff day for football, this year we will be riding our Kick-Off the New Year Right Ride to help kick-off your 2017 New Year resolution to ride more (you did make that resolution last night didn't you?)!
We'll start in Kirkland at Marina Park and head southward toward the I-90 corridor running largely along the waterfront streets. We'll return inland a bit up Rose Hill and finish with the Kirkland waterfront. This socially oriented ride will be conducted at a Moderate pace (on the flats). The route can be found in the link below. Any updates to the route will posted by Thursday evening Dec 29. The ride leader is slow up any hills we may encounter but will always get there. Riders should have 2 tubes, a pump, and know how to use them.
A cue sheet can be printed from the ridewithgps link below.
As usual for Fall and Winter group rides, as a courtesy to others in the group, you will need long fenders unless it is bone dry out, and zero percent chance of rain forecast. Showers will cancel.
Regroups will be occasional, though not at every turn, so please bring a cue sheet or load the route on your GPS. We will always wait at the top of the few hills, so you can climb those at your own pace.
Mechanicals will not stop the group. Please be sure you have the equipment and knowledge to change flats, plus a cue sheet to get home, or a phone to call for assistance if needed.
Please make sure you are at the start and ready to ride 15 minutes before rollout. You must attend the safety briefing and sign the waiver, or register on this page and check in at the start, in order to ride with the group. There are usually water & restrooms at the start but it is New Year's Day so please arrive prepared in case the City does not have the facilities open.
I will not be at the start if weather conditions meet the criteria for cancellation (steady rains cancel - also threat of ice/snow will cancel). If the weather is such that we wouldn't start, I will post a cancellation notice in the Comments block, below, at least 2 hours prior. Please register for the ride by clicking on the red Register Now button at the top of this page. In the screen that follows, click the waiver release box, complete the Emergency Contact Number, and click on Save. By doing this you will save time at the ride start.
Mentoring is available. Please contact me if you're interested, and do know the route.
While not part of the formal ride, there will be an informal opportunity for those interested to join in some coffee (etc.) after the ride at the Starbucks in downtown Kirkland which is close to our starting location (Starbucks location - 116 Lake St S, Kirkland, WA 98033) - the returning times will be a bit variable with the different paced groups but likely the faster groups will be returning shortly after noon.

Update on Ride Today
It's a wonderful morning although somewhat chilly. Snow reports are varied depending the local area. We are still assessing and plan to make the final call at ride time to see what is the best option. There is a good chance some of the groups may elect to do a slight re-route based on possible conditions. Hope to see you all there but do dress warm!
