This 25.5-mile ride with 1,915 feet of climbing at a Moderate pace (14-16 p.m. on the flats) is the start of an informal hill training series on Sundays in December, leading up to the start of CHEW training series in January. The December rides will get longer and feature more climbing on progressive Sundays.
If you are considering riding or leading CHEW, these warm-up rides are intended to help get you ready. They go through some nice areas of Snohomish County and may take you up and down some hills and through some neighborhoods that are new to you.
Let's meet at the northeast corner of the Ash Way Park & Ride and ready to ride at 9:55 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup occasionally.
Restrooms are not available at the start. We will make a bathroom stop at Lynndale Park at mile point 6.8. Drinking water is not available at the start or the park. Please, arrive with enough water or hydration mix for the entire ride. If you think you will need a snack, bring it with you. This route does not include a food stop.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.

Route updated
I made some small changes in the route at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3. If you've already downloaded the route, please, get the updated version.
Check in before leaving your home
Dark Sky forecasts temperatures below freezing for 6-8 hours before our scheduled start time tomorrow morning. If that is correct, it could make road conditions dicey on some parts of the route. I will try to make a decision on canceling based on road conditions by 7:55 a.m. -- two hours before the start. Check here before you leave your home.
Ride Cancelled
There are icy patches on the street in front of my house near Ash Way Park & Ride. Temperatures near freezing are expected until start time. At least as troublesome is a heavy fog warning from the National Weather Service for parts of the route that include some of the steepest climbing on narrow roads where reduced visibility for drivers would be a danger for us. So I'm canceling and will repost this route for next Sunday.
