Let's meet at Jack Block Park and please be ready to ride at 9:45 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done.  If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

Please join us for this ride to Tukwila and back. The ride begins at Jack Block Park in West Seattle.  The ride follows the Alki Trail, the Duwamish Trail and the Green River Trail to Fort Dent (a/k/a  Starfire Sports Center), then we will return to the start.  On the way back, we will detour for coffee at a Starbucks in Tukwila.  Much of the trail is on bike paths, but there will be times when we will be riding on city streets. The route takes us through contrasting environments -- from industrial, to residential, to nearly bucolic (during the times when we ride alongside the Duwamish).  Vivid fall foliage will be a constant.

If you plan to drive to the start from outside of West Seattle, allow extra time because the West Seattle Bridge is closed and you will need a different route.  Jack Block Park can also be reached via the Rapid Ride “C” bus (use the first stop in West Seattle).  Parking, restrooms and water are available at the Park.  Bring a spare tube in case of flats and whatever else you might need to address mechanical issues.

This Is a social ride, and we will stay together.  The pace is “steady,” which means riders should be comfortable with riding 12-14 mph on a flat road without headwind.   Our average speed on the ride will be less than the listed pace, given that the route is punctuated by several traffic control devices and two sets of railroad tracks.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader will not be at the start location

Comments

Ride leader's message: I checked the weather at 7:00 a.m. and it looked like it might be OK (50 to 70% chance of rain). On checking registrations at 8:45 a.m., I found that two of the originally-registered riders had canceled, leaving four registered riders. I arrived at Jack Block Park (the start) at 9:30. Gordon O, one of the registered riders, was there. The two remaining registered riders were not there. We waited at Jack Block until 10:00 a.m. No one else showed up. A steady light rain had begun falling. With Gordon's concurrence, I canceled the ride.
