Routes

This is a casual ride from UW in Seattle to Shoreline and back. We’ll ride new bike infrastructure around Green Lake and check out some interesting sights as we make a loop using the Interurban Trail and Burke-Gilman Trail. There is one section with hard-packed gravel on the route.

We will meet near Drumheller Fountain on the University of Washington campus (address Seattle, WA 98195). Bicycle access is just off the Burke-Gilman Trail. Parking can be found in lots throughout the college campus. Transit access includes the University of Washington light rail station and numerous King County Metro Bus routes that serve it less than half a mile away.

Please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that’s done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.

We will take a break to check out the metal windmill sculptures at Viewland/Hoffman Substation (mile 5.0), restroom & water break at Bitter Lake Playfield (mile 6.3), coffee/snack break at Wired Chicks Espresso (mile 13.5), and a restroom & water break at Matthews Beach Park (mile 18.0).

Please note: this ride is expected to last around 3-3.5 hours.

Click Register Now above if you would like to attend this ride.

Please bring basic tools (extra tubes, patch kit, etc.) as well as water and snacks, as it may be warm that day. Have a back-up plan in case you are unable to finish (friend/family who can pick you up, ORCA card to use public transit).

Cancellations: In the event of a weather cancellation, a notice will be posted in the comments on this page at least two hours before the ride, and the ride leader will not be at the ride start location.

Restrooms: there are restrooms at Bitter Lake Playfield (mile 6.3), Chevron (mile 13.5), and Matthews Beach Park (mile 18.0).

Cue sheet: Route link cue sheets will not be provided. Please print one using the RideWithGPS link below if desired.

E-bikes: This is an e-bike-friendly ride. Please consult the "Can I ride my e-bike on a Free Group Ride?" section on the Cascade Free Group Ride FAQ's link for more information. Be sure to have your battery/power pack fully charged before you arrive for the ride.
