Join us for a ride from Orting on a 56 mile route at steady pace (12-14 MPH)!
This is a gorgeous route (credit to Terry Franks!) beginning on the Foothills Trail in Orting and proceeding through the historic towns of Wilkeson and Carbonado to the end of the Carbon River Road at the edge of Mt Rainier National Park. This is an out and back route with a steady, mostly gradual uphill climb, with the majority of the climbing completed during the first half of the ride. We will stop at the historic Fairfax Bridge, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and continue to the end of the road where there are primitive toilets available, but no water. Please pack a picnic lunch for our rest stop near the end of the road at a scenic bridge crossing the Carbon River. Bring 2 water bottles as there is no potable water between miles 15 and 44. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently.
Let's meet at the Orting Trailhead in Central Park and please be ready to ride at 9:30. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
Public restrooms, sanicans and water (near covered shelter) are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms at miles 7.5, 14.9, 28.3 and 44.3. Water is only available at the start and miles 14.9 and 44.3.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please note that past Wilkeson, the Carbon River Rd is quite remote with no services available.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!

Finding us at the start
Jane,
When you get to the park just look for cyclists. We're usually pretty easy to find and I'll be there 20-30 minutes early wearing my yellow Cascade jersey.
