We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running a spring training series for 2021 with three paces offered (Steady 12 - 14 mph, Moderate 14 -16 mph, Brisk 16 - 18 mph)
COOS will run for thirteen Saturdays, from April 3rd through July 3rd. COOS is a training series to build endurance and strength. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a 100 mile century. All paces will use a common route each week.
For ride #13: This is it, our last ride of the series! We ride across the Narrows Bridge, followed by riding through Gig Harbor before taking the ferry that will drop us off in West Seattle. We will head back to the start through the Green River and Interurban Trails.
Stops: Restrooms will be at, miles 14, 21, 32, 40, 51 (ferry), 70, 73, and 80. (Please note that Fred Meyer will open at 6am)
If you are unable to sustain the pace, you are encouraged to drop to the slower pace if available.
Ride Leaders will manually check riders in at the start location, which means that it is very important that riders arrive with adequate time. We are asking everyone to arrive at least 15 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready and listen to the pre-ride briefing and SMART talk. This allows us to have an on-time departure and proper sequencing of all the pace subgroups. Please plan accordingly.
New riders, we are very happy to have you with us. Please read the New Rider link, above, and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides.
Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and as needed. We will observe posted speed limits on multi-use paths.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast. If you don't have fenders, you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
A route map and cue sheet are on the RideWithGPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
