This beautiful loop ride from Lake Wilderness to the Green River Gorge is one of my favorite routes. We start with a descent to the Cedar River then ride through the forest, under a bridge, up a hill, through a neighborhood to riverside Dorre Don. There is a short section (0.3 miles) of packed gravel on the Cedar River Trail followed by a short climb on pavement (200 yards) to cruise through quiet neighborhoods. The first rest stop is at S'wiched for an early Lunch at about 11:30 am (mile 13). After lunch, we head south through the forest to Cumberland and descend to the Green River Gorge for a photo op. There is a natural spring where you can fill your water bottle for 2 cents. The gradual 3-mile climb up to Black Diamond brings us to our second rest stop (mile 35) at Lake Sawyer Regional Park Trailhead. We should be back to Lake Wilderness about 3:30 pm.
Start: Meet in the Lake Wilderness Lodge parking lot at 9:45 am for the pre-ride safety briefing and route review. Departure is at 10:00 am. There is a restroom in the park at the start.
Regroup: We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, regrouping at the tops and bottoms.
What to Bring: 1) Money for lunch at S'wiched - See menu link below - Face mask is required; 2) A spare tube and tools to fix a flat; 3) Two full water bottles; 4) A cell phone in case you cannot finish the ride.
Cue Sheet: If you would like a Route Map and Cue Sheet, print one from the RWGPS link below.
Cancelation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader will not be at the start.
