New to bicycling or been off your bike for a while? New to Cascade or to group riding? Make this your opportunity to get on the bike and do some summer riding. This is a social ride (Leisurely pace: 10-12 mph) along a variety of flat trails and mostly flat roads to get you started or continuing to ride. There are some short hills (less than 7% grade) to get you used to your gears and gain confidence. We will regroup at the top of all hills to give you a chance to recover and this is a NO DROP ride.
We start and finish at the 192 Brewing Company where we get on the Burke Gilman trail and ride the Sammamish River, the UW Bothell campus, and the Parr and North Creek Trails. We then head north on some Bothell roads before returning to the start. The ride is intended to give you the opportunity to learn and practice group riding skills and ask about riding techniques, training, and equipment. After the ride the ride leader will remain at the 192 Brewing Company for refreshments and more conversations about biking.
There are no restrooms at the start but we will stop at Blyth Park at mile 1.7.
Please park along NE 175th Street and not in the 192 Brewing Company parking lot.
Please arrive at least 20 minutes early to get ready to ride, sign the required waiver and participate in the SMART briefing. Riders are expected to have the following with them: water, red blinking tail light and white front light, a spare tube, a pump and other tools to change a flat tire. Please remember that it's important to check your tire pressure regularly during the summer. (e.g., weekly during the cycling season) We usually have a floor pump with pressure gauge available at the start.
Showers or more severe weather will cancel the ride. Ride cancellation will be announced in the comments section at least two hours before start time and the ride leader will not be at the start.
