Join us for a ride from Magnuson Park to Seward Park on a 28 mile route at a Steady Pace (12-14 mph on the flat)!
This is a classic route which has often been used to kick off the season for STP preparation by the Cascade Training Series - it is a very popular route combining lower traffic cycling trails and roads! While the full CTS efforts won't occur in 2021, you can still enjoy at least the fun of the first ride by joining us on this traditional route. We will go through parts of the University of Washington, along extended parts of Lake Washington Blvd, and through the Arboretum! If you have not had a chance to see the route leading to the SR520 Floating Bridge Bike Trail, we will go past that access point on the western side of the Bridge which may be of interest to you.
Let's meet at Magnuson Park outside of the Cascade Bicycle Club offices no later than 9:45 am for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure time of 10:00 am.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. Since we will be on the Burke-Gilman Trail for part of the ride, we will slow down as needed if there are lots of pedestrians and other trail users - we all want to be good ambassadors for cycling!
We will stop along the way for restrooms within the first mile and again at mile 14 at Seward Park. There is no water at the start, so please bring enough to get you to Seward Park where there should be water available. Also bring whatever personal snacks you will enjoy at our Seward Park stop.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the conditions are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. However, since this is a mentoring ride for a ride leader candidate, our intention is to ride....earthquakes and volcanoes are valid exceptions.
This is a mentored ride for Andra Luca, furthering her efforts to become a ride leader, so please show your support for her by coming to this ride!
We hope you can join us!

Route looks great!
We just pre-rode our route for Saturday and it was great! Wonderful views along Lake Washington and the Arboretum flora is in full Spring foliage! The weather forecast shows the possibility of rain but our plan is to come prepared and ride. This route is usually used the first weekend in April for the Cascade Training Series....it will certainly be better for riding tomorrow in June than it probably would have been in April! See you at the start tomorrow!
Forecast is improving!!
As of 7:30am, the weather forecast data from The Weather Channel for Seattle are improving for our planned ride! The data they show are:
10 am Mostly Cloudy - 14% chance of rain
11am Mostly Cloudy - 13% chance of rain
12 pm Mostly Cloudy - 15% chance of rain
1 pm Mostly Cloudly - 16% chance of rain
As usual, in the PNW, we get what we get but this is a better forecast than many of the earlier projections! Likely headwind out but a big tailwind back!! See you at the start and ready to roll no later than 9:45am! Andra will have an informative safety briefing for us.
