The Getting Ready to Ride Series
Are you new to bicycling, or just been off your bike for a while? Perhaps you've been meaning to ride more this year, but not yet gotten around to it? If so, Getting Ready to Ride might be just for you. It is an eight-week series starting with a flat and easy ride, and adding a little more challenge each week. We will regroup frequently and definitely at the top of any climbs.
We're offering leisurely (10-12mph) and steady (12-14mph) pace versions. This posting is for leisurely (10-12mph). Click here for steady (12-14mph).
This Week's Ride
Join us for a ride from Gas Works Park on a 20 mile route at leisurely pace (10-12mph)! This week we take the Burke-Gilman to the 39th Ave NE greenway where we take a gentle climb to Wedgwood, followed by a cross-town ride past Green Lake all the way to Sunset and western views over the Sound and the Olympics, before returning via Ballard and Fremont to the start. Let's meet at the east end of Gas Works parking lot at 9:55am for our pre-ride safety briefing, with a departure at 10:10am. Restrooms are available at the start and at Green Lake (10 miles).
COVID Safety
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please click the red Cancel My Registration button above so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Final Words
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!

Waitlist?
Hi, I'm wondering how to get notified if a spot opens up? Next Saturday's ride is already filled up, six days in advance. If it's still showing as full on Saturday can I just show up and ride with the group if someone doesn't show? It seems there are always several no-shows. Thanks for any advice you have around this!
Hi Denise, I can see one open
Hi Denise, I can see one open spot right now if you want to grab it.
Waitlist?
Hi Denise, no we don't have any way to add a waitlist and also it's tough to know when a spot opens up. I encourage you to keep an eye on the ride from now until Friday evening. I'll be sending out a quick reminder then just to see if anyone's plans have changed and if I notice an opening, I'll text or email you. We have had a rider successfully show up Saturday morning and if a spot has appeared, sign up with their smart phone; unfortunately, I can't guarantee that this will happen:-( Fingers crossed that you can join us again this week!
Thank you for your message
Thank you for your message David. Even I am looking for spot to open up. I'll keep checking regularly just in case there is a vacancy.

Hello Team
I've been watching closely for any available spot for tomorrow's riding. Would you have any news about availability? Thanks!
Waitlist
Nestor, I did send out a reminder to all registered riders earlier this afternoon, but so far I haven't seen anyone "unregister" for this ride. I'd look again in the morning just in case. Thanks for your interest!
Spaces available
As of 8:30 this morning there are 2 spaces available on today's ride... not too late to sign up or inform your friends who've been waiting:-)
