Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please click the red "Cancel My Registration" button above so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Join us for a ride from the Fauntleroy Ferry Dock on a 29 mile route at a steady pace (12-14 mph).
A teen on horseback, a random deer peering from the undergrowth, and very light traffic -- these are what we may experience as we make a post-pandemic exploration of the quiet, rural island that is, of all the islands in the Sound, the most accessible from Seattle's urban buzz. We will proceed down the west side of Vashon, then take a lollypop spin out on the Jensen Peninsula (we take a short, distanced lunch break there), and eventually head north on the mid-island road through Vashon Center and eventually down to the ferry dock. Bring a sandwich or snack, or purchase food at the Burton General Store just before the lunch stop on the peninsula. We may also stop for coffee/snacks at Vashon Coffee Roasterie (mile 25).
Let's meet at the Fauntleroy Ferry Dock at 9:00, which will give us time to purchase tickets and be prepared to board for the 9:30 ferry departure. We'll do the safety talk while waiting for vehicular traffic to clear, after disembarking on the island.
We will climb and descend hills our own pace, and our plan will be to regroup frequently.
Restrooms are available at the start, and on the ferry. Restrooms and water are available at the lunch stop at Jensen County Park (mile 18).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!

Ferry time
Are you truly taking the 9:30 ferry as there is a 9:10 ferry. I usually bike down leaving my house at 9 am to catch the 9:30 ferry
