- Attendance at the pre-ride safety briefing is required to participate in the ride.
- If you have tested positive for COVID or have been exposed to someone with COVID, follow the quarantine and isolation guidelines. In general, if you have COVID or are displaying COVID symptoms, or if you are sick with the flu or a cold, you should not participate in group rides.
- Carry a face covering in case a business or public transit requires their use.
- Please, no spitting or “snot-rockets” while participating.
- A CPSC certified helmet is required to be worn to participate.
If you are new, please read our newcomer information.
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please click the red "Cancel My Registration" button above so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
We are pleased to announce Cycling Out Of Sumner (COOS) will be running a spring training series for 2021 with three paces offered (Steady 12 - 14 mph, Moderate 14 -16 mph, Brisk 16 - 18 mph)
COOS will run for thirteen Saturdays, from April 3rd through June 26th. COOS is a training series to build endurance and strength. The rides will incrementally increase in distance, leading up to a 100 mile century. All paces will use a common route each week.
For ride #4 We travel out to Flaming Geyser Park. Flaming Geyser was operated privately from the 1920s until the 1960s when the park fell into bankruptcy. When the land risked takeover by home development, Washington State Parks purchased the land and has managed it since. This is a mostly flat ride traveling through Algona, Auburn and backcountry roads to the park.
Stops: Restrooms at the start, mile 13.6, 22, 31
If you are unable to sustain the pace, you are encouraged to drop to the slower pace if available.
Ride Leaders will manually check riders in at the start location, which means that it is very important that riders arrive with adequate time. We are asking everyone to arrive at least 15 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready and listen to the pre-ride briefing and SMART talk. This allows us to have an on-time departure and proper sequencing of all the pace subgroups. Please plan accordingly.
New riders, we are very happy to have you with us. Please read the New Rider link, above, and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides.
Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. Everyone should carry a phone to call for assistance if needed. We will regroup after climbs and as needed. We will observe posted speed limits on multi-use paths.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast. If you don't have fenders, you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
A route map and cue sheet are on the RideWithGPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.

Weather and Fenders
My very reliable weather forecast (ventusky.com) is now showing just a bit
of drizzle in Auburn for our ride on Saturday. Am thinking we will not be
canceling, but check before you leave for the ride. If a weather cancellation
is called 2 hours or more before ride time, it will be posted on the ride
posting and ride leaders will not be at the start. Please have fenders on
your bike and a waterproof layer might be a good idea.
If your plans have changed, please "cancel your registration" and free up a
spot for someone who might want to join us. (you can do that by pushing the
red button that looks like the one you used to register) Thanks!
See you Saturday - Marlene/Paul!

Ride?
I wondered if anyone is heading to the ride from Seattle that I could ride with. I'm fully vaccinated (a couple of months out), will wear a mask, and can share gas costs. My number is 206-790-0163.
