Love local bike shops & non-profit community bike centers? ME TOO! Two of my favorites are teaming up for a great cause - getting gently used bikes, bike parts and accessories back into circulation. Old Town Bicycle is hosting an off site bike drive for 2nd Cycle in the parking lot of their Gig Harbor location. Bring your old bikes for the bike drive and your new ones for a ride! So as not to take up space in their parking lot, we'll meet at the Kimball Park and Ride, just down the street from Old Town Bicycle. From there, we'll take a take a scenic ride over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and pass by 2nd Cycle's storefront in Tacoma. We'll return to the start via North Tacoma. (Route linked below, feel free to download and/or print a copy of the cue sheet if desired)
Please note: During COVID-19 restrictions, all Free Group Rides are limited in the number of allowed participants. Registration for the ride (using the red “Register Now” button above) is REQUIRED to participate. If you decide not to ride, please unregister for this ride so that an additional spot will be made available to another.
Face coverings (for mouth and nose) are required when the group makes extended stops. Face coverings are recommended for the duration of the ride. Please bring personal hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and tissues for use at rest stops.
We will observe current social distancing guidelines when off the bike, and strive to maintain at least 10-12ft separation between riders when on the bike.
Helmets are required! Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.Other items to bring: ID, a charged cell phone, water, cash/credit card, a small snack. (also, as mentioned above, kleenex, wipes, hand sanitizer, a face covering)
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.

Ride Cancelled
Interestingly enough, when I showed up at the ride start, there was one rider there, although he had not registered properly. It is possible that he thought that since he had registered for the ride that was cancelled last week due to snow that he thought he was automatically registered for this one. Anyway, we chatted for a while, decided not to ride (my bike was at home around the corner from the start and the weather isn't too wonderful) and hopefully I will see him again another time, as he does live in Gig Harbor. The donation event for 2nd Cycle at Old Town Bicycle seems to be going really well. I dropped off some bike accessories this morning and there were quite a few bike donations.
