A great ride that several other ride leaders have led - so here is another Sunday opportunity for this beautiful ride around two of Snohomish County's lovely lakes. There is one long climb at about mile 7, then the rest are rolling. We regroup at the tops of hills and where needed.
We will stop at the Silver Lake Safeway deli to get coffee and warm up; bringing snacks is suggested.
If the weather is clear, Silver Lake can be beautiful; so cameras are okay for short photo ops. Not suitable for young children or child carriers.
Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group, or ride independently. Please come with the skills and equipment to change a flat; the group does not stop for mechanicals. Print contact information clearly on the waiver so that we can reach you in case you become separated.
Please RSVP on meetup.com if you can (http://www.meetup.com/cascaderides/events/218824956/ ).There may not be open restrooms at the start, please plan ahead. Please print your own cue sheets - if you want me to print you some, let me know by the Friday preceding the ride.
FOR WET CONDITIONS, FENDERS STRONGLY REQUESTED. Please come with long fenders including a buddy flap if the roads are wet. Without them, you will be asked to ride in the back of the group.

Sunday Cold Temperatures
Just a head's up as it is way too early to fret, but they are now predicting some potentially very cold weather conditions for Saturday evening. If there is a chance of ice on the route, we may need to consider some route changes - I will investigate this on Saturday. Looks like only a cold temperature issue right now, not snow, so some creative routing might be able to address that issue if necessary and prudent. More to come as we get smarter.
Weather Update Friday Evening - Re-route possibly needed
Currently the weatherunderground site is projecting Bothell in the area of our ride to be about 30F at ride start time and peaking at 34F a couple of hours later....this is coming off a projected low Saturday night of about 21F. (Temps are more extreme than in urban settings). So ice/frost on the roads (particularly in shady spots) can be a concern. I am working on a more "open" route that stays in areas not usually frosty that goes from Log Boom Park to Redmond Town Center (including part of Education Hill) as an option if the conditions require a re-routing (It's about 27 miles and 600 feet elevation....but there is still a hot chocolate/coffee option mid-ride!). I had a fall earlier this year on my bike....my bride has instructed me not to do that again. More to come as we get closer.
Saturday morning - Snow! But we don't ride until Sunday!
Folks
Saturday morning - Snow! Fortunately we don't go until Sunday. However, the temperature predictions have not been improving in the areas of our original route. One possible re-route to do a fun ride but reduce the possible exposure to frost/ice on the riding surface is at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6... This route goes to Redmond Town Center with much of the route in direct sun (although not all). We'll make the final assessment tonight. I just wanted you all to be aware of a possible route change different than what we initially intended to do.
"Final" Plans - We Will Re-route to Redmond Town Center
Folks
It will be very cold tonight and, in the interest of a safe, fun ride, I am going to do a re-route to a flatter route where more of the route will be in sun and dry. We will still have to be vigilant but the ride looks very doable - and riding in the sun will be very nice indeed! We will still plan to leave Log Boom Park as indicated at 11:00 am but we will head out on the trail (with a few route variations) toward Redmond Town Center where we can take a mid ride coffee/hot chocolate/etc break. The new route is shown at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6556419 - it is 28 miles with approx. 630 feet elevation. It should be a fun social ride and we'll get off the trail where it makes sense. This will be a special ride for Keri who will be doing her second mentoring ride to become a Ride Leader - I hope you will be able to join us!
Thanks
Al Miller
