Here’s a ride where you won’t need to bring your umbrella, instead we will be riding to the Umbrella Wall in Tacoma. Since its completion in 2012, the Umbrella Wall in Tacoma’s Dome District has been a destination for people seeking a playful backdrop for photographs.
Graduating high school seniors, moms with toddlers, young couples recently engaged have trooped down to 220 Puyallup Avenue to have their pictures made in front of the whimsical mural, which depicts dozens of brightly colored umbrellas against a sky-blue background.
Our route leaves Sumner, heads through the Tacoma industrial area, crosses the Chihuly bridge of glass and Foss Waterway, then makes a stop for pictures at the Umbrella Wall. The Sumner (Patty/ Rick group) will meet the Gig Harbor (Marlene's group) for coffee and photo op.
Arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you can get yourself ready, sign the waiver, and listen to the S.M.A.R.T. briefing. This allows us to have an on-time departure.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast, or ride in the back.
A route map and cue sheet are at the Ride With GPS link, below. If you want a cue sheet, please print and bring it. The ride leader will not have extra copies. You must be able to pedal 14-16 mph on flat road, we will regroup at the top hills for a reasonable amount of time.
Cancellation Policy: If needed, a weather cancellation will be posted two hours prior in the Comments section, below, and the ride leader will not be at the start. Please check here before leaving for the ride.
Please bring equipment to fix a flat, and a phone in case you have a mechanical issue and need to call someone to pick you up.
